Advice for Applicants

Here are some things you should know before submitting your application: Hiring Process

  1. Explore our website, and get to know us a bit. If we invite you for a phone screen, we will ask “Why Vertex?”

  2. While it isn’t a requirement, we encourage you to write a cover letter. We’ll read them.

  3. Put measurable results in your resume. The Data Inquiry Cycle – and measurable student results – matter here.
  4. Don’t go over 2 pages on your resume – it shows challenges prioritizing or a difficulty adhering to norms.
  5. Upload a PDF resume; other formats may impede readability.
  6. We’re only able to hire people who have legal authorization to work in the U.S., and unfortunately we can’t sponsor visas.
  7. We know that you are interviewing us as much as we’re interviewing you. Ask questions throughout the process. We know who we are, and we’ll give you straightforward answers.

The Hiring Process

  1. Apply. We accept applications on a rolling basis.

  2. Phone Interview. Selected applicants will participate in a 30-minute phone interview with a member of our recruitment team.

  3. Guest Lesson and In-person Interview. Selected applicants will teach a 25-minute lesson to our students and reflect on it. Then we’ll engage in a conversation about your experience, what’s important to us, what’s important to you, and whether we might be a good fit for each other.
  4. Offer Letter. Offers will include salary, working hours, and our benefits package.

Background and Reference Check.  A member of our recruitment team will request and contact your references. We will notify you before contacting any of your references. You will be asked to provide a current or previous manager or supervisor reference. We will also verify your education and eligibility to work in public schools in the United States.
