A Commitment to Continuous Improvement

Vertex Partnership Academies will be an institution committed to furthering the education of all its members—not just its students; but also its faculty, operations staff, and leadership team, as well as members of its broader community. And while Vertex aims to educate those in the community it serves, it remains committed to learning from those communities. Professional development at Vertex will be guided by the view that teacher education should be an ongoing and bidirectional engagement in which faculty and leadership exchange knowledge and ideas.

The standards and practices required for National Board Certification will guide professional development at Vertex Partnership Academies to facilitate across the faculty:

  • a deep understanding of students;
  •  the ability to implement high-impact instructional practices;
  • the capacity to design high quality lessons and assessments; and
  • the ability to use assessments to guide instruction.

Vertex aims to foster among its faculty a culture of reflection and collaboration through common planning time and highly focused professional development.

As Vertex pursues accreditation from the International Baccalaureate Organization (IBO), faculty members will engage in workshops provided by the IBO, and school-based leaders.

Vertex is committed to an inquiry-based approach to learning and teaching with an eye toward helping students understand different cultures and languages in order to meet IBO standards, which exceed those of New York City and State.
