Our Campus

Vertex Partnership Academies is situated on its own entire campus in Community School District 12 in the Soundview section of the Bronx. The campus is nearly one street block long and consists of two buildings (1160 Beach Avenue and 1143 Taylor Avenue), a private parking lot, a theater for stage production, plays and musical concerts, and a private 40,000 sq ft natural grass athletic field that accommodates students to play a range of sports including soccer, baseball, softball, football, track, volleyball and basketball.

Vertex Partnership Academies is a virtues-based, International Baccalaureate public charter high school, housed on the grounds of The Church of the Blessed Sacrament, a Roman Catholic parish church operated under the authority of the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of New York. 

The Church founded The Blessed Sacrament School in 1929. Boasting a cornerstone dated 1928, the Gothic Revival building (1160 Beach Avenue) is a combination structure with the church on the ground floor and school classrooms above. An additional brick schoolhouse (1143 Taylor Avenue) has a cornerstone dated 1955.

In 2013, the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of New York announced that it would close 24 schools, including the Blessed Sacrament School. Among other distinguished alumni, Supreme Court Justice Sonia Sotomayor attended the Blessed Sacrament School from Kindergarten through Eighth grade, and graduated top of her class as valedictorian in 1968.

When Justice Sotomayor was interviewed by the New York Times about her time at the Blessed Sacrament School, she said: “It was a road of opportunity for kids with no other alternative…[The education] taught me how to be a good person. In the kind of world we lived in, with the drug addiction and crime and sadness that permeates the community, you needed a model of someone teaching you that being a good human being has value.”

In 2022, Vertex Partnership Academies re-opened this road of opportunity for kids by signing a long-term lease with the Archdiocese, renovating the two buildings, and bringing the campus back to life.
